TABE Placement Test

To begin GED® Prep classes, students must complete a free placement test called the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE). The TABE includes three subtests that assess knowledge in each of these areas: reading, math and language. Because the entire TABE can take many hours to complete, we recommend that students take one subtest per day, if possible. It is not necessary to study for the TABE, so don't worry if you have been out of school for a long time. When it's time to take the test, just try to relax, do the best you can, and know that there is no such thing as failing the exam. However, you should try to do your best so we receive an accurate picture of what you know when starting classes.

The TABE is administered on a computer. To perform the best you can on the TABE, we recommend learning more about the test before heading into the testing center. You can view a 10-minute TABE orientation video to learn how to access important TABE tools such as the calculator, magnifier and highlighter. You can also use the TABE Home Practice handout as a guide to experiment with the TABE tools and access sample questions from any computer. Additionally, you can review the FLDOE TABE study guide and check out more sample practice questions on the official TABE website.

Please contact us if you have any questions about the TABE.
